Initially, a photo and reproduction. The assemblage seems funny. The rest happens quickly in small steps. A single hesitation, the head of Lazarus. I wanted an Africa-Asia-Europe mixture, while keeping the character's smile. What interests me here is the misuse of the religious scene, the Lamentation of Christ becoming the Resurrection of Lazarus - and hints like the blue cape or the veiled woman in a soap box that seems to go to the accident, despite the bolts that hold the vehicle on the beam. I also like the asymmetry between the left and right, as between two worlds that ignore each other. Sometimes I feel like Lazarus, knowing me alive and healthy after my surgery. Even my hair and my hair grow a little: from an old hairless baby, I become a teenager (again), seeing in my mirror a beard who calls from time to time a slight razor cut. And I am supported, as in the picture. No one knows what Lazarus became after the miracle, but I like to imagine him happy, enjoying life and health that have no price.

Au départ, une photo et une reproduction. L’assemblage me semble rigolo. Le reste se fait rapidement par petites touches. Une seule hésitation, la tête de Lazare. J’ai voulu un mélange Afrique-Asie-Europe, tout en gardant le sourire du personnage.
Ce qui m’intéresse, c’est le détournement de la scène religieuse –la Déploration du Christ devenant résurrection de Lazare - et des clins d’œil comme par ex. la cape bleue ou la femme voilée dans une caisse à savon qui semble aller vers l’accident, malgré les boulons qui la retiennent sur la poutre. J’aime aussi la dissymétrie entre la droite et la gauche, comme entre deux mondes qui s’ignorent.
Je me sens quelquefois un peu comme Lazare, me sachant vivant et en bonne santé après mon opération. Même mes cheveux et mes poils se remettent à pousser un peu : de vieux bébé glabre, je redeviens adolescent, contemplant dans mon miroir une barbe naissante qui appelle de temps à autre un léger coup de rasoir. Et soutenu je le suis, comme sur l’image. On ne sait point ce que Lazare est devenu après le miracle, mais je me plais à l’imaginer heureux, goûtant la vie et la santé qui n’ont pas de prix.
