This collage has come like that, I stumbled f on reproductions of the restoration of the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel. Initially, a restorer's hand could be seen at the bottom left trying to retouch a figure. But I found the picture too flat and I then added the foreground, and finally the two states of the same head.

To me, it says two things.

First, the desire to rejuvenate everything, as if we wanted to fix everything in eternal youth, although we see throughout the upheavals that contradict this trend. I think of Faust. It is the negation of usury, aging, and finally of change at all.

And the idea of returning to the state of the orginel work - erase its old age, wrinkles, its crust, as with Botox, resulting in less expression because transformed into a rigid mask. Thus between the two heads, personally I prefer the old version because it seems more expressive than the new. The restoration seems here an update to the modern taste , to the neo pop, who also transforms the objects into fetish .

I do not mean that I am right, but the example of these two heads is troubling.

Blog on art, centered on collage. It is meant as a sort of logbook of my creative work.
