Although my collages are constructed from found images, the composition or the assembly makes the unity of what I do. For proof photos of Nazis found in an old German book (Kriegsfibel) given to me recently. I have always been reluctant to address this issue explicitly, but what makes me do it today is the events in Hungary. This way of reducing the refugee to nothing is intolerable in my eyes.

A picture of a German general celebrating an ephemeral victory is echoed in the modern character with the Nazi armband, here united by ideology and nostalgia of a “pure” population. And cruelty. Have I well managed this image? Among the associations that I have had,  there is Ph.K. Dick's novel The Man in the High Castle, hence the presence of a disjointed robot, Star Wars of course as well as the adventures of refugees who are invisible in this collage. But these negative characters are still there, among us, although usually hidden. But with the immigration they are back again.

 In today's reading of a comment on an interview of Aï Weiwei (http://www.faz.net/aktuell/feuilleton/buecher/themen/ai-weiwei-diskutiert-mit-liao-yiwu-in-berlin-13784044.html), I told myself that indeed everyone must choose his camp, no indulgence is permitted me.

 

Même si mes collages se construisent à partir d’images trouvées, c’est la composition ou l’assemblage qui fait l’unité de ce que je fais. Pour preuve les photos de nazis trouvés dans un vieux livre allemand (Kriegsfibel)  qui m’a été donné récemment. J’ai toujours été réticent à aborder ce thème de manière explicite, mais ce qui m’incite à le faire aujourd’hui, c’est les événements en Hongrie., cette manière de réduire l’autre à rien. 

La photo d’un général allemand fêtant une victoire éphémère trouve son écho dans le personnage plus actuel au brassard nazi,  les voilà réunis par l’idéologie et les nostalgies. Et par la cruauté. Ai-je bien réussi cette image ? Parmi les associations que j’ai eues, il y a le roman de Ph.K. Dick Le Maître du Haut Château, d’où la présence d’un robot désarticulé,  Star Wars of course et les péripéties des réfugiés qui sont invisibles dans ce collage. Mais ces personnages néfastes sont toujours là, eux, bien que cachés habituellement. Mais face à l’immigration les voilà de retour.

 

En lisant aujourd’hui un commentaire sur une interview d’Aï WeiWei (http://www.faz.net/aktuell/feuilleton/buecher/themen/ai-weiwei-diskutiert-mit-liao-yiwu-in-berlin-13784044.html), je me suis dit qu’en effet chacun doit bien choisir son camp, qu’aucune complaisance ne m’est permise.
