It is after watching painting of contemporary German artists that my collage arose . And pictures of Kobane

. And the ruins emerged with a clock that dominates the scene, as in a story by Borchert . On the right side, the men search the rubble, as I did when I was 4-5 years old. I found "treasures" in it: crystal pendants of the chandelier that must have been in my mother's room , where the bomb had fallen during the war. I found thus some buried old objects, just as the paleontologists in my collage that assemble bones . The left side of my collage probably speaks of reconstruction and also of an inscription. This is history, memory, that haunts me. How to assemble these pieces? I think one can try to write a story, t facts that fit into a novel. But of course at the expense of raw truth. My collage by contrast is syncopated, disruptive, but still consistent I think.

What I see most of the time in the collages published here and there, is playing with paradoxes and this seems to be more liked than a less immediate narrative construction, which is more demanding in terms of reading. So I feel closer to artists who make a painting that encourages reflection than some swanky art that always flatters the onlooker.

the bigger picture

Blog on art, centered on collage. It is meant as a sort of logbook of my creative work.
