Today, I would like to comment on the collage 175/12. It is approx.. 16 days old (I just finished the no. 191). And it is apparently very simple. Sometimes I tell myself that my collages are too simple, often a little sloppy. But soon after I correct myself: no, they are as they should be. The 175 consists of a head and a fragment of a baby, held between two white teeth. One eye is down, the other is watching. A piece of the head is held like a mask in front (?) of a figure resembling that of a Tibetan lama. When I made this collage, I thought of a birth, a word that comes to life. Yet the face is double: the teeth are reminiscent of the wolf in grandmother. But it is also possible that this other part of the face is an invitation to understand this mystery, to go beneath the surface of things to understand? Perhaps. Now I think of the wise men and women, the difficulty of seeing clearly, to understand. The mystery of birth and death. And more trivial, the beautifully silent paintings of La Tour. And the other half of the face questions me: And you Berni, who are more in the tumult than in the quiet, why are your works so agitated? Because it is the mirror of the world. And it's my job to polish it every day.

Blog on art, centered on collage. It is meant as a sort of logbook of my creative work.
