Emerging from my cave, going to several openings, I find that the contemporary artist works his message using several mediums at the same time. In general, Video and Installation occupy a prominent place. What struck me yesterday is that viewers are not hooked by the video screen or installation, the passage seems to be at a glance. It is the comment of an authorized person or expert who makes one stay longer before an artwork, for he/she reveals all the implications and innuendo.

My collages require contemplation, i.e. a minimum of time spent on reading them and not necessarily an expert commentary.

Do I have to become an installer-videographer for my images to be presented in an exhibition? This question seems a tad disillusioned. Making videos implies that the concentration of a still image is diluted. And an installation would only make tangible the flat illusionistic space and would remove the tension between the surface and the space that I like. Another argument against such a change is that I rebel against the mainstream and that I'll not change that at the age of 74.

Sortant de ma grotte, allant à quelques vernissages,  je constate que l’artiste contemporain travaille son message à l’aide de plusieurs mediums en même temps. En général, vidéo et installation occupent une place de choix. Ce qui m’a frappé hier, c’est que les spectateurs ne sont pas accrochés par l’écran vidéo ou l’installation, le passage semble se faire en un regard. C’est le commentaire d’une personne autorisée qui fait rester davantage devant l’œuvre, car elle en dévoile toutes les implications et sous-entendus.

Mes collages demandent une contemplation, à savoir un minimum de temps consacré à leur lectureet pas forcément un commentaire d’expert.

 

 

Dois-je devenir installateur-vidéaste pour que mes images puissent être présentées dans une exposition ?  Cette question me paraît un tantinet désabusée. Faire des vidéos supposerait que la concentration en une image fixe se dilue. Et une installation ne ferait que rendre tangible un espace illusionniste plat, enlèverait cette tension entre la surface et l’espace que j’aime. Un autre argument contre un tel changement est le fait que je suis rebelle par rapport au mainstream et que ce n’est pas à 74ans que je vais en changer.
