Looking back on a week of collages

My collages flow is very fast, I'll try to take a moment on last week’s works to see if there are constants. Because often I wonder what is the connection between them other than an art project to do as spontaneously as possible.

Here we go:
- These 10 are figurative collages without being photomontages
- They comply with the laws of physics, but not the visual laws they transgress, because they are the result of a combination between disparate but plausible elements, (meat-dog; tooth- pointed)
- They represent humans or animals, or both at the same time
- They meet the "natural" color, but without search for realism.
- Spatial relationships are often exaggerated (488, 489), in the manner of a zooming in
- Images are expressive and show aggressive or paroxysmal reports
- They do not refer directly to artistic models ("Max Ernst") while assuming a Dadaist and Surrealist legacy. The most plausible reference would seem Expressionism as an art form, not as historical movement (1905-1918 approx.)
- The effect of collision between the visual elements seems to be my trademark.

- For me, the most "radical" collage in this regard is the no.490 "zoo." It is the fruit of a long struggle after which I decided to "sacrifice" a large part of the surface (left) covering head and paws of a leopard (?) and his playmate. At the beginning it was thought to be the image of a predator half-man half-animal toturing a victim on the ground. What bothered me the most was the too figurative scene, unable to turn the animal into a more human image. As I've written in this blog, I teach that you need to be able sacrificing the part of the image that is resistant to transformation by making a radical move to get out of the deadlock. Looking at it now, I think the mystery comes from this recovery. It has dragged the focus on the border between the gray and relatively abstract zone and the rest of the image that remained narrative. The happy effect is probably due also to the merger between cats and the wild predator.

- Well, enough for today, I return to my work table, a new collage, a new adventure awaits me ...
